Ngogo

In the Drakensberg between Memel and Newcastle. Two day, circular backpacking trail.

Day 1 : 15 km, from the base camp (Dumblane Cottage) to overnight camp (Ingogo Camp). Day 2: back to base camp is 12 km. The Ingogo hut is an exquisite mountain setting on head waters of the Ingogo river. Day 1 starts with a short walk across grassland before a steep ascent up to the top of the escarpment, about a climb of 600 m.

Lovely views. Both trails pass waterfalls, rock pools, mountain streams and a Tree fern valley with 100 tree ferns, Tree fossils over 200 mil years old and Anglo-Boer War ruins. 60 Indigenous trees are tagged.

Both camps are well equipped and accommodate 12 hikers. Electricity. Gas stove, pots, pans, kettle are provided. Flush toilets and hot water showers. Braai facilities.
